I have worked in and for public libraries for more than 30 years in a variety of progressively responsible managerial and administrative positions. After 15 years of service, I retired in 2008 from the position of director of professional development for the Ohio Library Council. Since then, I have consulted with numerous libraries and library organization and facilitated projects for management, staff, and trustees. I’ve led strategic planning work with libraries of various sizes and served as consultant to my congregation's planning process in 2011. I presented a keynote address at the Vermont Library Association Conference; taught for the Public Library Association’s CPLA Program in Missouri, Ohio, Georgia, New York, and Texas; facilitated a staff day for the public libraries in Illinois and Ohio; assisted the Rocky River (OH) public library with two staffing studies; taught strategic planning and management for the New York Library Association’s Leadership Institute; and facilitated board retreats for libraries both in Ohio and in other states.
Since 2001, I have been a student in the PLA's "For Results" training program, and beginning in 2007 I became an instructor for PLA's Certified Public Library Administrator program. I use anecdotes, humor, and 'real life' examples to help all library staff perform more effectively. My complete resume, list of clients, and references are available upon request.
